Time’s Up activists call for R Kelly investigation and back #MuteRKelly campaign

Activists from the Time’s Up movement have called for an investigation into the sexual misconduct accusations facing R Kelly and have backed the #MuteRKelly social media campaign.

In March, R&B performer Kelly was accused of grooming a 14 year-old girl to be his sex “pet” in a BBC documentary. Then, earlier this month, Dallas police confirmed they were investigating claims that Kelly gave a woman a STD and plied her with drugs and alcohol when she was 19.

A new open letter is signed by the “Women of Color within Time’s Up” and calls on RCA Records, Spotify, Apple Music, Ticketmaster and Greensboro Coliseum Complex to all sever ties with the star.

“The scars of history make certain that we are not interested in persecuting anyone without just cause,” the letter reads.

“With that said, we demand appropriate investigations and inquiries into the allegations of R Kelly’s abuse made by women of color and their families for over two decades now. And we declare with great vigilance and a united voice to anyone who wants to silence us – their time is up.”

A representative for R Kelly recently stated that the singer “categorically denies all claims and allegations” of sexual misconduct.

It was recently reported that two members of Kelly’s inner-circle have resigned.
